Preliminary Track

Preliminary doctoral research student

An applicant who wishes to pursue a doctoral dissertation at the Hebrew University and does not have a dissertation for a Master degree, will be registered with the faculty as a "Preliminary doctoral research student" in order to complete the dissertation and complementary courses (if assigned by the Faculty), after which the Faculty will allow the student to apply for admission as a research student. The student application will be considered by the Authority for Research Students, according to the admission conditions specified in the research students' regulations. It is emphasized that there is no direct mandatory acceptance of the "Preliminary doctoral research student" as a research student.

Admission requirements for Preliminary doctoral research student

1. A score of 85 in each of the non-research degree components: The average of the courses, the grade of the research seminar and the grade of the exam.

2. Written confirmation from the proposed supervisor with the right to instruct and who is willing to guide the student in the final thesis.

3. Approval of the department's study committee regarding the student's suitability. This committee can impose complimentary courses on the student.

Preliminary student track Requirements

During the first semester, the student must submit a research proposal as in the graduate research degree track.

2. A student may be in preliminary student status for up to 3 semesters.

During the period, the student must carry out research work to the extent accepted in a graduate research program. At the end of the period, the student will submit a master's thesis and examine it as usual.
