Direct PhD Track

Admission to the direct PhD track:

A student who meets the following criteria will be able to apply to the direct PhD track:

 A. An average of at least 85 in the BSc studies.

 B. Completion of the required master-degree course work, with an average grade of at least 85, within four semesters from the beginning of the studies.

Alternatively to A and B - Completion of the required master-degree course work, with an average grade of at least 90, within four semesters from the beginning of the studies.

Supplementary Studies

A doctoral student, in addition to writing a dissertation, must participate in study activity of a scope of at least 12 credit points, hereinafter "Program of Doctoral Coursework". For more information, see: Doctoral Coursework

Conditions of Admission

Stage A

For this stage, a candidate will be accepted after finding a supervisor for the "doctoral dissertation" and will meet at least one of the following conditions:

A) Studied at the Hebrew University and holds a degree with a final thesis, with the following grades:
Minimum final grade 85; Final thesis grade at least 85.

B) Holds a "Doctor of Philosophy" degree.

Course of Doctoral Studies

Details of the meetings with the advisory committee

1. With the application documents for admission to doctoral studies (to be submitted to the Authority for Research Students), a proposal for the composition of the advisory committee will be submitted. The supervisor will propose 4 names, from which the Authority plenum will choose 2. The Faculty Doctoral Committee, if it recommends acceptance of the candidate, will include a recommendation for the composition of the advisory committee.

 

The Advisory Committee

The Advisory Committee is a central component of the doctorate course in the Hebrew University. The roles of the committee are:

1. To accompany, advise, critique and approve the research.

2. To examine the student's readiness to carry out the research. The committee is a partner in guiding the research and it is recommended to use it throughout the research. Therefore, it is highly recommended that the student will meet with the committee also without the supervisor.

General Information

Studying at the Faculty of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences to obtain a Ph.D. is the top step in the university studies. A student admitted to these studies will be called a "research student"

The studies will be conducted in 2 stages (the definition of the stages is given in the regulations of the Authority for Research Students - the regulations can be found in the secretariat for students, and can be reviewed during reception hours:

The Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment Committee for Doctoral Studies is responsible for the admission of students and the study procedures.

Please note that the procedures for the doctoral program in the Faculty of Agriculture are different from the procedures on the website of the Authority for Research Students, and must be followed by the students and teachers of the Faculty.
