- Within two months after the beginning of their studies, students must submit to the teaching program secretariat an overall study program approved by their supervisor(s) (supervisor approval is not required in Teaching program 717 if the student does not yet have a supervisor at this stage). The program must include the following details:
- The thesis topic
- A list of courses totaling at least 24 academic credits (32 credits in Teaching program 717)
- One seminar of the teaching program (2 seminars in Teaching program 717). No exemptions are given from the seminar of the teaching program.
- The required course 71105, “Academic Writing via Critical Thinking.” Students who have completed a similar course may request an exemption from course 71105 from the course instructor.
Subject to approval of their supervisor(s) and the head of the teaching program (or of the study committee), undergraduate-level courses may be included in students’ study programs for their graduate degree. In such cases, the study program must include at least 18 academic credits (26 credits for Teaching program 717) from graduate-level courses. In the calculation of students’ grade average, only those undergraduate-level courses formally recognized as part of their study program will be included, up to a maximum of 3 such courses (up to 6 academic credits). Any exemption from these rules will require authorization from the Teaching Committee before the study program is approved by the head of the teaching program.
The total number of academic credits required for a MSc degree is at least 36. For thesis tracks, at least two-thirds of these academic credits (at least 24 credits) must come from courses, seminars, and other study assignments, as detailed by the relevant teaching program. The remaining credits are gained from the thesis (the number of credits earned from the thesis is not noted in the final grade certificate, and the grade given for the thesis is not weighted according to the number of credits the thesis represents).
- If the student is required to complete supplementary courses, the study program will also include these (listed separately).
- It is possible to also include banked courses in the study program, if approved by the student’s supervisor(s) and head of the teaching program (or of the study committee), as per section 6.5 of the University Teaching Policy and Procedures (https://studentsadmin.huji.ac.il/sites/default/files/minhalt/files/takanon2023english.pdf). In MSc degree programs, it is not possible to include extra undergraduate-level courses.
- Courses taught in other faculties may be included in the study program, if approved by the student’s supervisor(s) and head of the teaching program (or of the study committee), up to a maximum of 3 such courses (up to 10 credits). Any exemption from this rule will require authorization from the Teaching Committee before the study program is approved by the head of the teaching program.
- The teaching program secretariat will submit the overall study program to the Teaching Secretariat, after final approval by the student’s supervisor(s) and head of the teaching program (or of the study committee). Approved copies will also be sent to the student and their supervisor(s).
- Any change to the approved study program will require in advance authorization by the student’s supervisor(s) and head of the teaching program (or of the study committee).
- Registration for courses is to be carried out in accordance with the conditions detailed in section 4.1 of the University Teaching Policy and Procedures (https://studentsadmin.huji.ac.il/sites/default/files/minhalt/files/takanon2023english.pdf).
